VIDEO: earthcandy* food.fashion.flyness. Episode 03 Thai Red Curry Vegetables

Very NICCEEEE!!!

Join host Jamila Crawford on a tasty journey through Southeast Asia. In this episode, she'll show you how to prepare her recipe for Thai Red Curry w- Vegetables (from her forthcoming cookbook; CULTURE CLASH: globally-inspired recipes by EARTHCANDY GOURMET VEGAN CUISINE©).

Thai Red Curry w- Vegetables (serves 4)

2 tbsp. sesame oil

1 med. Yellow onion, peeled and sliced

½ cup each: red bell pepper, zucchini, snap peas (fresh), slivered

½ cup carrot, peeled and matchstick-sized

1 cup bite-sized broccoli florets

2 Tbsp red curry paste

1 can (14 oz.) coconut milk

¼ cup shitake mushroom, sliced

3 Tbsp soy sauce

2 tsp. raw sugar

cilantro and scallion (both chopped) for garnish

Set a wok over medium-high heat and add the sesame oil. When the oil is quite hot, add the onion and saute for about 2 minutes, or until the onion is softened.

Add bell pepper, zucchini and snap peas and stir for 2 minutes. Next, add carrots, broccoli and curry paste and blend into vegetables. Pour coconut milk and soy sauce.

Add mushroom and carrot and bring to a boil.

Reduce heat to simmer, about 15 minutes.

Turn heat off and all cilantro and scallion for garnish, mixing well.

Serve directly from the wok over individual bowls mounded with jasmine rice (optional)

SSR-005: Year Of The Hip Hop (Vocal) - K-Def ft. LL Cool J

Man! Just play this!!!! smh. DOPENESS!!!!

Back in 1994 K-Def was working on some beats out of the B Room in Marly Marl's House Of Hits when LL Cool J walked in on his session and said "let's make some tracks together". Uncle L had always wanted to rhyme on a track using the famous ESG breakbeat 'UFO', so he had Def lay it down with some scratches and then went to town with the mic. Both thought they had a sure fire hit on their hands but unfortunately it was never used.

The DAT tape of the studio session was feared lost for several years before it eventually turned up stuck behind a radiator! Now, 17 years later, K-Def and Slice-of-Spice are proud to present 'Year Of The Hip Hop' in all it's vinyl glory.

As with all Slice-of-Spice pressings, no expense is being spared for this vinyl labor of love. Outside of a full color cover, with a 3mm spine, the special limited edition version comes on solid orange vinyl, with individual gold stamp numbering. Once again we're coming at you with strong cover art from the legendary Joe Buck, and personally we think this is his best one yet!

This release is not only for the real hip hop heads, it's for the vinyl connoisseur.

DON'T MISS OUT!

VIDEO: Jasiri X -I Am Troy Davis (T.R.O.Y.)

YESSS!!!!!

Jasiri X uses Pete Rock's classic beat, "They Reminisce Over You" to shed light on the case of Troy Davis.

The state of Georgia plans to execute Troy Davis on September 21, 2011. There is still serious doubt as to Troy Davis' guilt, and by putting him to death Georgia runs the risk of killing an innocent man. Please call on the board to save Troy Davis' life.

The fact is, no physical evidence connected Davis to the murder. Seven of the original nine witnesses have recanted, with many saying their testimony was a result of law enforcement pressure. Of the remaining witnesses, one is highly suspect and the other could be the actual culprit in the officer's murder.

Now, despite these and other facts, the state of Georgia has taken the final steps toward Davis' execution -- and only the Georgia Board of Pardons and Parole stands between Davis and the lethal injection chamber.

LYRICS
Does the court system employ racists?
Then why are so many black boys in cages?
Why shouldn't I be paranoid of hatred?
Just look at the curious case of Troy Davis
Let travel on down to savannah
In the state of Georgia just south of Atlanta
Where they wave the rebel flag like a bandanna
Hung our ancestors then posed for the camera
A white police officer was shot and killed
Over and argument he tried stop and heal
And here's where the plot gets real
The main suspect blamed Troy went to the cops and squealed
And with no physical evidence or weapon
Troy was arrested for a 187
He said he was innocent man was a when he was questioned
But they said that he did it who needs a damn confession
They just need is a witness they can press to cry
Tell em what to say or they arrest the guy
Then Put em on the stand and make em testify
Swear to god to tell the truth and do they best to lie
And they did so troy was found guilty
Sent to death row by police so filthy
Even though his innocence is true
We pray they don't reminisce over you

But the truth always comes to light
And Troy Davis didn't give up the fight
He kept filing appeals until it was reveled
The state of Georgia wants an an innocent man killed
That's why a who's who wants him out
cause there's just too much doubt
And witness after witness came forward and admitted
the only reason they did it cause the police insisted
so wicked so vicious
The system's broke so fixed
2 decades no Christmas
Execution dates 4 listed
get organized show resistance
go online sign those petitions
Black Americans know the difference
It's a new day but the same old lynchings
I am Troy Davis
families destroyed be cases
why can't we avoid the Matrix
instead of giving his children toys to play with
he's waiting his execution hoping the court stays it
I'm praying and doing
we need action we need movement
cause his innocence is true
I pray they don't reminisce over you

Grassroots International Rally to Stop the Execution of Troy Davis September 20th!!!

We are calling on All Activists, Artists, Grassroots, Secular, Non-secular and Every Day People to Organize and Take to Streets in Solidarity to Stop the scheduled execution of Troy Anthony Davis AN INNOCENT MAN who is scheduled to die on September 21st at 7pm in the State of Georgia!

STOP THE EXECUTION! FREE TROY DAVIS!

On March 28, 2011, the US Supreme Court failed to take up the appeal of Troy Anthony Davis, the Savannah, Ga. man whose scheduled execution has been halted three times in the past because of the growing evidence and public belief in his innocence.

Chatham County Superior Court Judge Penny Freesemann signed the death warrant for Davis on Tuesday Sept. 6th, marking the fourth time since 2007 that the state has a scheduled an execution for Davis. The U.S. Supreme Court cleared the way for the execution in March by rejecting an appeal by Davis.

Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens has set 7 p.m. at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson to carry out the sentence.

Meanwhile, the state Board of Pardons and Paroles has scheduled a 9 a.m. Sept. 19 clemency hearing to allow Davis' attorneys one final attempt to delay or commute the sentence, board spokesman Steven Hayes said Wednesday.

Troy Davis is an African American on death row in Georgia. Davis was convicted in the 1989 killing of a police officer despite what Amnesty International calls "overwhelming doubts about his guilt." No physical forensic evidence was presented at Davis' trial, and 7 of the 9 non-police witnesses have recanted their testimony, with at least two saying they were pressured by police to finger Davis as the killer.

Oddisee - Mattered Much (feat. Olivier Daysoul)

Real dope start from that return to work!!

Oddisee's Rock Creek Park is officially available everywhere today on CD! To celebrate Oddisee is giving away the special edition vocal version of the track Mattered Much.

About the song:
Mattered Much was not initially  made forRock Creek Park, but after putting together nine songs for the album, Oddisee went back into the hard drive, rediscovered this song up, and realized it was perfect for the album. Oddisee's really proud of the drum programming on this track, it took him "a long ass time to program all those rolls". The guitars played by Andy Fausgive it such a grimy feel while Lucan Pipkin’s strings polish the track. Definitely a track produced by the ’96 Reasonable Doubt in Oddisee, meeting up with the 4Hero in him. This is the official vocal version of the track featuring Olivier Daysoul.  For the complete track by track breakdown from Oddisee, visit http://allindstrom.com/2011/09/track-by-track-breakdown-of-rock-creek-park-by-oddisee/

About the Album:
Rock Creek Park is Oddisee's newest instrumental album dedicated to Washington DC's famous park.  The album debuted at #15 in the USA on iTunes and has been garnering positive attention across the boards.  King's of Comedy star DL Hughley said "Oddisee's new joint is hot death."  While West Coast legend Murs tweeted "really dope music.

If the park were to have a soundtrack, what would it be? What does walking along the trails of the park sound like? What does driving on the narrow tree lined roads sound like? This album is Oddisee's interpretation of Rock Creek Park through break beats, samples & live instrumentation.

Enjoy the new song, feel free to post & share!

VIDEO:The Black Power Mixtape 1967-1975 - Movie Trailer (2011)

Gotta peep this!!!

THE BLACK POWER MIXTAPE 1967-1975 mobilizes a treasure trove of 16mm material shot by Swedish filmmakers, after languishing in a basement of a TV station for 30 years, into an irresistible mosaic of images, music, and narration chronicling the evolution one of our nation's most indelible turning points, the Black Power movement. Featuring candid interviews with the movement's most explosive revolutionary minds, including Angela Davis, Bobby Seale, Stokely Carmichael, and Kathleen Cleaver, the film explores the community, people and radical ideas of the movement. Music by Questlove and Om'Mas Keith, and commentary from and modern voices including Erykah Badu, Harry Belafonte, Talib Kweli, and Melvin Van Peebles give the historical footage a fresh sound and make THE BLACK POWER MIXTAPE 1967-75 an exhilarating, unprecedented account of an American revolution.

The city has been responsible for the birth of hip-hop, the rise of graffiti as an art form, and famous artists like Andy Warhol. In fact, it was Warhol himself who inspired the idea that a single, ordinary product like a simple T-shirt (he used a Campbell’s Soup can) could generate the topic of art and conversation. 200 pages. D, Sol Messiah, Apollo Brown and more. The project will be available digitally August 26th at Oursoil.Bandcamp.com with 2 bonus tracks. CD’s will be available on September 6th with featured Artwork by Goldi Gold.

It’s been 2 years since the first FTP Movement mixtape Food, Clothes, & Shelter was released featuring popular artists like Adam Levine, Kanye West, and KRS-ONE as well as Atlanta’s Hip Hop community. In contrast to the first project, the second installment of the FTP “has a razor sharp edge,” FTP’s founder Kalonji Changa. “It is a perfect marriage between independent Hip Hop and people’s politics baptized in a special blend of revolutionary fervor.” Kalonji adds. This new project is released in hopes that listeners will be inspired to find out about the freedom fighters and get involved in the community. Listeners will get a top flight Hip Hop mixtape that will also spread a message.

Producer and engineer Amond Jackson teamed with Kalonji to produce these first two FTP mixtapes and while both are busy with many other projects, they made the time to put this together. Kalonji recently released his book titled How to Build a People’s Army while coordinating and providing leadership for the FTP Movement and Amond is immersed in other musical endeavours including sound design for film and designing recording studios. The two’s chemistry allows for the mixtape to come together seamlessly. This project shows solidarity with today’s Movement and provides some of the finest Hip Hop around.

Next for the FTP Movement is a documentary highlighting the organizational work entitled FTP: Organizing Is The New Cool. Kalonji is producing the documentary and Amond Jackson will score the film. To keep up with all things For The People visit FTPmovement.ning.com.
